Canis Major lives

In dandelion days of halcyon blue
We sang Summertime
Summertime
And the living was easy

Specter slinking in shadow
Bore hand lettered signs
Beware beware
Sirius rises
Beware the glare

On the gong of time
Seventy strokes
Gunned a parallax warning -

Die halcyon days

When the star struck
The road turned to dust
The heat waved

The little dog revolved
Light years evolved
Each day dogged on . . .

And then they were gone

Gone days
Where are the dog days
