The shadow warrior sings his song
a melody of rock and wind
it speaks to me of days that were
and hopes that they may come again

I envy you your freedom song
Your spirit soars on raven's wings
while mine lies locked in bone and blood
the memory lost on vanished plains

We knew those lyrics once, you see
we were not bound by fence or gate
our only roof the clear blue sky
our greatest adversary fate

My brother, can you tell me why
the buffalo have gone away
The open range has vanished under
man-made canyons cold and grey

but all things have a time and place
we'll meet again when day is done
