Uh-oh

“You!” the unfamiliar, deep voice boomed. “You in the purple top. Look at me!”

The corridor walls moved towards me, I glanced down and saw my purple vest. Uh-oh. I must have done it again, I realised.

I swivelled slowly around and was surprised to find a burly, bearded man wearing a pink fairy costume. Uh-oh. I’ve definitely done it again.

I opened my mouth to speak, but Tinkerbell was too fast and got there first. “You owe me an explanation, Miss Kerslake, don’t you?” He waved his sparkly wand in my face and a rainbow fountain of glitter flowed to the ground. I was mesmerised, his spell was clearly working.

“Come along now, let’s get you back to the ward.” His rough words stabbed through the colours and momentarily dragged me back to the corridor. Oh yeah. The ward. I felt a hand engulf my arm and begin to pull me.

I think I insisted I didn’t want to go to the ward, I was well now, I needed no more treatments. My words may have come out slightly differently, judging by the frown on the donkey’s face. I wondered why Tinkerbell was now a donkey. Not for long, though. Donkeys are cool.

“Miss Kerslake, you cannot possibly leave us yet. You’ve stolen Mrs Tolbat’s medication again. This is not a sign of wellness. Now, come along!”

The chequered ceiling crashed down all around, squeezing me into a wrecked car cube. I may have been in the company of a man size, upright donkey but I knew where my transgression was taking me.

I had spent so much time in the white room recently. As Donkey shoved me inside, he said, “Maybe this time you’ll learn something.”

I laughed loudly and thought to myself I doubt it.
