A knight goes on a quest to slay a dragon.
There once was a knight, as brave as they come. He was renowned throughout the land and was a fine swordsmen to boot. One day, he was summoned by his king. The king wanted him to slay a dragon that was threatening a prominent village.
The knight bravely accepted this task and set out at once. With his faithful steed, his everlasting shield, and his ever-so-sharp sword, he rode for three days and three nights, coming to the village on the fourth day.
The village lay half destroyed, a few fires still burning, the dead and injured still being moved. The knight moved at once to help. The villagers thanked him and quickly told him where the dragon was. The brave knight hurried to the cave on the mountainside.
As he entered, he could hear the deep breathing of the mighty dragon. The dragon quickly showed itself, as it started to emit a red, eerie, pulsating glow between it's scales. The knight declared his challenge and the dragon roared it's acceptance. They lunged, each attacking each other with a ferocity that shook the very mountain they were standing on, the knight blocking the dragons fiery breath with his mighty shield, the dragon parrying the knight's powerful thrusts with it's scales.
As night fell, the villagers could hear the sounds of the battle and the glows of fires. They wondered who would win, knowing all was doomed if the knight should fall.
It wasn't until early morning that the victor marched into the village. With the sunlight of the morning smiling down upon him, glinting off his blackened and charred armour, colored red with blood, and parts of it missing, the knight held up his trophy, a large scale from the dragon's body. The villagers cheered and dedicated a feast in his honor and on that day, the knight was forevermore, known as the Scarlet Knight.
