A conversation my Father and I were having one day to his V.A. doctor appointment. |
This Makes Me Think Of Your Sister! by: DW My Father has always been a serious kind of man. He never cared much for joking around, if he had any humor, he didn't show it often. It was hard just to get him to smile. Then one day I found out he really likes Roy Orbison, a famous singer from the 1950's. He sings 'Pretty Woman,' Only the Lonely' and many other top hit songs. Those were his most popular two songs. It was a two-hour ride to the V.A. Hospital. My dad asks me to put this CD in the truck player for him, he could never remember the correct side to put into it. So I'm singing along to some of the songs that I know. Looking over at my dad along the way. Watching him kinda sing along, but not wanting me to witness him doing it. When a song plays that I'm not familiar with, but I go along singing even though I don't know all the words. Then as soon as the song finished playing, he reaches over to turn the volume down, and he said to me. "That song, that was just playing, reminds me of your sister... Debra." I chuckled because he had the biggest smile on his face when he said it. I asked him, " What was the name of that song?" He replied. "It's called: 'Mean Woman Blues', I Think about Debra whenever I hear it!" We shared instant laughter when he told me that. It almost made me pee my pants. We never laughed like that before. It was such an adult father, daughter bonding moment we connected. I saw a different man sitting beside me that day. My Father, yes, and now my Friend.! (My oldest sister Debra has always been a control freak. It's just the way she is and she will never change. She knows it and she doesn't really give a hoot what others think. But I still love my big sister unconditional. We've been through a lot.) I thanked my dad, " for making my day." One I'll never forget! So we played it a few more times on the way back home just for laughs. It was a God-given day.! 💞 " Dad I miss you!" RIP 😇✨💫 10~5~1929 / 3~9~2015 Your littlest girl! |
