I dreamt that there was a maggot
in the center of the bed.
(Like the time there were maggots
in the frying pan.)
In my dream I curled up
against the headboard.
The maggot curled towards my toes.
I looked up at you
(like I did that time in the kitchen)
and I asked you to please get rid of the maggot.
You scoffed.
(Like you did that time in the kitchen.)
As though I was asking for a diamond. The maggot
multiplied.
A white pile curling ever closer to my toes. You stood there.
The swarm ate my body.
The frying pan sat
in the sink with hot water
and dish soap.
I later ate out of it.
I could slam you over the head with it now.
I sleep on
flannel sheets.
I change them
weekly.
