So Much More

Tonight
I got up from the floor
Wiped away my tears
Swallowed the pain
That threatened to drown my soul
And fought to find
Words

Now is not the time for surrender
Now is not the time
To shut the windows and bar the doors
Now is not the time
To accept that things
Are only destined to get worse

Join me
Pause for a moment
Reach out with all your inner strength
And pray
To whatever name you use
For our maker

Pray for forgiveness
For what you have done
For what you have failed to do
Pray for compassion
Compassion for others
And for ourselves
And most of all
Pray for hope

After your prayer is finished
Reach out
To your friends
To your neighbors

Reach out to the broken
The suffering
The young
The old
All of those in need
Reach out
To those
Who are reaching out
To you

Just for a day
Decide to change the world around you
It doesn’t have to be much
Just the smallest bit of light
Can destroy
A whole bunch of darkness

Be that spark
Be that glimmer of hope
Decide to be
Just for a day
To be the person you always dreamed
Of becoming
