Beauty and bad manners.

“What do you think of Amanda?” I asked.  “Not too friendly, huh?”

“No, she’s not,” Dan replied.  “She seems to be getting worse, now that she’s on her muscle-building kick.”

“For sure,” I chimed. “Little Miss Attitude.”

“And she’s not so little anymore!”

“Oh, I know--did you see those arms?  Her biceps are bigger than mine!” I exclaimed.

“Plus, did you see that skirt she wore? “ I went on.  “Pretty short for Easter.”

“It got my attention,” Dan piped. “Her shapely legs were an invitation to drool.”

“I hear ya--it was like the center of the sun had walked into the room.  If I had been flying a kite, it would have been gone with the wind--I wouldn’t have been able to hold on to the string.”

“Nor I,” said Dan.

“Too bad her attitude doesn’t match the beauty of her body, though,” I opined.  “What’s with her?  You’ve known her much longer than I have.”

“I don’t know,” Dan lowed.  “When I am working in my garden, I think of her, and of her twin sister Alyssa, and I hark on back to the days when they were little girls.  Time has made some changes.”

“Yeah, but Alyssa is at least a little bit friendly.”

“She is, “ Dan agreed.  “Alyssa did say goodbye when we left.”

“Yes, I noticed that.”

I went on: “I guess we should not let an unfriendly attitude bother us, huh?”

“Right,” Dan offered quickly.  “It’s a different generation.  To them, we are merely dinosaurs.”

“Oh we are dinosaurs, all right,” I went on in slight sarcasm, “Yet we have feelings; and we have good eyes!”

“Alyssa doesn’t seem to flaunt her body, yet Amanda does," said Dan.  “But you are correct--her attitude sucks; it’s not a good match for her drop dead good looks and shapely body.”

“Where are manners today?” I asked.  “Where is common civility?  Is it too much to offer a simple, Hi?  They won't even look at us."

“True,” Dan was succinct.

“Ya, know,” I went on, “We were there at the request of the parents, and they are just the daughters and I know I should not harp too much about it, but I’ll tell ya, I think a statement should be made.  Just my opinion.”

“Maybe I should write her a letter, “ Dan voiced humorously.

“Oh, I know you’re kidding. Still...”

“Hey,” Dan cut in, “Just be like that Great Blue Heron you told me about that lives by the lake--fly above it all.”

“Sure, I will fly above her rudeness, while ogling her sexy legs.  My eyes wide, my brain halved--a base, hormonal urge on one side, and pique from icy snub on the other.”

“As always,” Dan poured, “You offer it eloquently.”

“I’ve got another thought, however.”

“Pray tell?”

“Well, next time Jim invites us out, we should both take a pair of sunglasses.”

“Sunglasses? “  Dan asked quizzically.

“Yeah, sunglasses.  Then when Miss Attitude comes in, short skirt and all, we simply don our sunglasses.”

“Won’t that draw a lot of attention to ourselves?”  Dan asked.

“Oh, it sure will.  But it will serve more than one purpose--it will make a statement.  Add to that, no one will be able to see our eyes! “

“I think it will make a statement, all right!”  Dan said emphatically.

“But what about the parents,” Dan inquired. “What about Jim and Diane--what will they say?”

“No problem,” I assured.  “I’ll simply say we’re the Blues Brothers.”
