I remember a time;
When my thoughts were
Of a child’s mind.
When I never saw the world
And the things that were sad;
And life for me was
my sisters, and mom and dad.
On Mother’s day we went off
to the church on the hill;
Where we were taught of
God’s love and God’s will.
Upon my chest I wore a rose of red
And at my side was the one who loved me,
Hugged me, taught me my prayers,
and tucked me into bed.
She gave so much;
She asked for so little.
The wisdom she shared;
Unlocked most of life’s riddles.
No matter in life what happened
I knew that she cared;
And there’s nothing on earth, I would take
For the times that we shared.
Now the star has lost it’s light;
I wear a rose of pearly white;
Deep inside of what makes me, me
There will always be want and need.
To wear the rose of white is a task I dread;
How I long for the rose of red;
I remember her and say my prayers,
And at night when the day is done;
I thank God in heaven that I am her son.
