A doomed romance.
His teeth are even and white. There is a 3 cm indentation that appears between his eyebrows when he reads articles about politics, and emails from his father. He drinks off-brand brown cola in the morning instead of coffee. The tall woman in the office at the end of the hall wrinkles her nose when she sees the figurines on his desk. The same face she made when he asked for time off to go to a convention in Dallas.

I love him.

Curt from marketing appears at his cubicle, sweating and talking too loudly. Hey buddy just got back from a killer run yeah trying to hit optimal heart rate before lunch got a 10k this weekend and then ultimate frisbee with my bros you probably don’t know what that is ha ha ha hey look whatever you did to my computer didn’t make it run any faster so if you could stop by in 20 that would be sick I’m gonna go pound a post-run protein shake and some electrolytes gotta put gas in the tank know what I mean ha ha ha not that you need it ha ha ha thanks bud keep it real.

I hate Curt.

After Curt leaves, he sits in silence and stares at my screen. I power up my fans to tell him that Curt is an asshole and that I think he is perfect. He rests his hand on my mouse, and my screen glows in response. An inter-office memo appears. IT department announces company-wide computing upgrade. New machines arriving Monday morning. E-Waste disposal crew arriving Monday afternoon to remove old machines.

Finally, he says to himself.

Prompt: run, computer, post
