A stay-at-home vacation?

Lane Applegate thought he would take a Stay Vacation,
(or a Staycation, as it is more commonly called.)
His batteries were low--they needed recharging,
but Lane was in no mood to go and hit the road.
He would avoid the stress of rapid transportation;
“I’ll leave it for the airlines,”
Lane uttered softly from his den.

He was content to avoid the taxation,
the gnawing upsets of traveling.
He could stay home with his chaise and grill.
The beaches and resorts were all at his touch.
And cost free, a benefit Lane applauded;
he could not ask for anything more.
All he had to do was get his laptop
(the world gets near,
  one can go anywhere
  and make the far-away appear.)
Stay at home, (Staycation!)
Paris and Rome.

Lane told his better half about his odd intention,
and Laura saw her mate with narrow eyes,
her head askew.
Lane tried to make his case with images from pixels;
the flash of Internet, bright lights
and vistas in the sun.
Plaintively he made his case with Laura’s full attention;
“Honey we’ll stay at home,
  and act as if we traveled far.”

He was intent to stay his conviction,
a great vacation without the stress.
He explained the benefits with resolve;
no hassles, and all the money they’d save.
But she spoke, and it was an objection;
her words filled the room like silver hammers.
All she had to do on her laptop
(at Travelocity),
was book a flight for two
and let her husband see.
Stay at home? (No, Sir...Vacation!)
Paris and Rome.
