Why we hurt the ones we love.
What do people normally say about their families? Well, that depends on who you ask. There is a famous saying everyone has heard. You always hurt the ones you love. Never was there a truer statement, unless, of course, you have the ideal family. I have never met one, have you? I really don't think they exist.

So, why do we hurt the ones we love? One word explains it all - Security. I could also say comfort level, assuredness, tolerance, unconditional love; they all describe that one word. Most of us would never treat a friend, co-worker, or acquaintance in the same way we may treat our families at times. You don't want to hurt a friend for fear of losing a great friendship. A friend may not tolerate your behavior, and you wouldn't know whether or not they would unless you were to overstep your boundaries. We don't want to risk it. Treating a co-worker in a negative manner is just plain unprofessional, not to mention that you would be creating an extremely tense work environment. An acquaintance is just that. You just don't know them well enough, and you always want to give a good impression; especially the first impression.

Our families take a lot when it comes to our behavior or actions towards them. They tolerate us and will always forgive because they love us. And, we love them. We are secure. The comfort factor is there. Is it right for us to do such things? Of course not. One would think you would never hurt them because they are your family. It's a strange paradox yet a paradox nonetheless. It's one of those things in life we'll never truly understand.

So, going forward, let's all try to be more mindful of how we treat our loved ones. The people we'd never replace in the whole world.
