Entry for Hook To Book |
Red and blue flashed everywhere. It bounced off of the buildings, and with the sirens blaring, a sense of urgency was created. I weeded my way through the throng of police officers and found Officer Theodore Wilden looming over a dead body. "You aren't supposed to be here, Wilden." "Jesus!" He was quite attractive, especially when he was angry. His dark hair had flecks of grey that had started to appear soon after he announced that he was running for Mayor of New York City. His green eyes blazed with anger, and his lips curled upwards. "I'm the best officer in the city and I need to be solving crimes. So get lost Agent Bell." "You know I can't do that. Not only are no longer on the force but..." The sound of gunfire sent everyone in the vicinity to the ground. I crawled towards Wilden with the express purpose of getting him away from the crime scene and possibly taking him into the station if necessary. "Wilden, you know you can't be here. Not only were you forced to resign when you started your campaign, but you are still a person of interest in the disappearance of your wife." His jaw clenched and his hand moved slowly down to his waistband. Once again I found myself wondering why the first case that I was assigned to as an FBI agent had to be so difficult. My colleagues were given cases that were the equivalent of finding a missing cat. Yet I was stuck with a case that even Nancy Drew couldn't solve. Jane Wilden had gone missing almost 2 months prior, when she went out for her morning jog. Wild theories abounded but one that kept coming up time and again was that Theodore had made his wife disappear, in an attempt to gain traction in the Mayoral race. Something inside of me said he was innocent but he did not make it easy to prove. "Has anyone every told you that you're beautiful when you chew your hair?" Wilden asked, a twinkle in his eye. It was time to mull over the story once again and see if anything jumped out at me. |
