A writer's introduction to the world of the innocent and how the writing began.
About Me

A writer's work speaks for itself, usually after spending hours in front of a computer screen or at a typewriter. We are solitary creatures, and part of the world we live in. We create worlds for characters to live their lives, to tell a story, and maybe make a living. My story is not much different. I think I first started to write for fun in the elementary grades, probably around the fifth grade. Our teacher was a creative person who owned a bike shop with his brother, so he helped us think outside the normal box. We were given vocabulary words to memorize, and then we were given lists of required books to read. It wasn't much of a challenge for me, since I had been raised by two school teachers, both of whom have their master's in education. They read to me when I was still in diapers, and probably because of them, I thrived in the world of story telling.

One of the favorite series of books I found in our local public library was The Encyclopedia Brown Series by Donald J. Sobol. I loved the way he used the powers of deduction to solve a mystery based on a given set of clues. It was one of the catalysts for me as a young writer. It was when I started to write, that I usually took the role of the reader trying to solve a mystery. How would a good reader view the story if I gave them a clue that leads to the conclusion....etc. I loved thinking of new ways to present the clues...after all...readers sometimes need to be led by the hand to a conclusion.

I read fiction mainly for entertainment throughout my school years, and I found that I loved putting words on a page. I loved using the correct word, for the correct semantic...I guess you could say I am still a little OCD about the choices of words I use. Mystery and adventure stories are my favorites. I love researching old towns, and imagining the characters that once lived there, and how they most likely lived their lives. Pirates, while for the movies, are exciting, probably were criminal, smelled badly from lack of bathing regularly, and were infected with diseases that most polite company would prefer to discuss. I would take a good Sherlock Holmes or Inspector Morse story any day.

My current writing project is finishing up a novel that I have been working on, and I hope to be published in the next few years. It will be, of course, a mysery....and the lead character is innocent. He is framed from the day he starts working for a company, and the backstory is still developing, but it ties in to an ex-wife and her nefarious husband. Stay tuned, and thank-you for reading my work.
