A dying man meets his childhood movie idol
“I'm dying.”

“Yes darling.”

“He left me alone.

“I know.”

“Who are you?”

“Don't you know?”

“I'm not sure.”

“Darling, I'm your Auntie Mame!”

“K, I was goin' with Death.”

“I am.”

“Death dresses as Rosalind Russel in drag?”

“Oh Dahhling, I dropped that name ages ago. The middle ages to be exact. I needed a change. Death just had no mystery and allure to it anymore, you understand.”

I understand needing to change. I Played sports, dated girls,,, I always ended up being kicked out of some jocks Camaro with a busted face to prove he wasn't gay”

“I know darling.”

“I want my mother.”

“She chooses to stay away?.”

“Yes. I told her I was sick. She told me AIDS was gods punishment for being gay. I said I was scared. She left me anyway and she never came back.”

“Yes, I know.”

“I'll never turn 29. Why did she hate me?”

“There, there my little love. It's not you she hates.”

“I still need her.”

“Grandma Daisy is waiting for you my love. Ahhhh, there's a smile.”

“Grandma Daisy?”

“Yes, she is.”

“She loved me.”

“She still does.”

“Auntie Mame. My grandmother and I knew every line in that movie. She used to make me laugh.”

“You've got her sense of humor.”

“I'd have to. I'm lying in a hospital bed, dying alone, talking to a fictional character from an old movie I used to watch with my grandma.”

“Just a character from an old movie?”

“No, you know you were more than that.”

“Of course I was, darling. I was the spark that ignited your flame. I was your inspiration. I was-”

“Alright, I get your point and you did all that. You really are dramatic.”

“Darling, what could be more dramatic than dying?”

“Dying alone. Why did he leave me?”

“Now now, my little love. What did we decide about tears? Perhaps the pain was to much for him.”

“Perhaps. Are you Auntie Mame when everybody dies?”

“Only the lucky ones dear.”

“I think it might be time.”

“Not yet, there's one more thing!”

“Did they misdiagnose me?”

“No dear. A young man named Kevin is about to walk through that door.”

“He's here.”

“Yes my little love he's here. You must forgive him. Do you think you can?”

“I already have”

“Now you are ready. I will be waiting. There are so many things I have to show you.”

“I'll see you soon Auntie Mame.”

“Yes, my little love. Yes you will.”
