Justice is slow but eventual. On February 25, 2012, two US Military Officer members of our Afghan Police advisory team, Bob Marchanti and JD Loftis, were murdered by an Afghan policeman at the National Poice Headquarters in Kabul. The shooter, Sabor, escaped but was finally captured by the Afghans four years later. Sabor was sentenced to 20 years in an Afghan prison in his trial on October 5, 2016.
Although nothing will ever bring back these two men who left behind loving families and friends, I pray that this will finally close this chapter in the lives of our surviving team members. We will never forget that painful day, but w will also never forget all the good times we shared with both of these men.
I am grateful that even in war-torn Afghanistan, the authorities did not give up on the search for Sabor and did not hesitate to bring him to justice.
