Gen and Carlos, wife and husband? |
Chapter 2 I can’t believe my brother really gave me away to Carlos. We don’t even have anything in common. “Sit with me at lunch.” “Not going to happen.” “Why not?” “Because I don’t want to be around your kind.” “And my kind would be what?” “Bad guys.” “How are we bad?” “Let me reword that, you are all players.” “Not me, honey.” “I doubt that.” “Just come to my table, I’m not arguing with you.” “Well I’m not going to sit at your table.” “So you’d rather sit alone?” “What?” “I know that you don’t have any friends, cutie.” “Shut up, meathead.” “Why do you call me meathead?” “It works for you.” “What do you mean?” “I mean you can only seem to think about your muscles and my looks.” “I wasn’t thinking about your looks when I told your brother my price.” “I’m not something to bought.” “Well he’s owed me for a while and now he’s given me the perfect wife.” “Wife?” “Of course.” “Still not going to happen.” “Want to bet?” “You’re on.” “Okay you ask me a question and I have to answer truthfully.” “How is this a bet?” “Well if I can answer all them correctly you sit with me but if I don’t then you are free.” “Fine. How old are you?” “Seventeen.” This went on for about two minutes before I lost and had to sit at his table with his friends. “Chandler, Jalen, Kyle this is Genvieve.” I waved as they looked me up and down. “Why is she sitting with us?” Chandler asked. “Because I want her to sit with us.” Carlos replied. “That’s total bull. What’s the real reason?” “You know what I think I forgot my lunch in my brother’s car I should probably go call him.” I said backing away slowly. Carlos grabbed my arm and sat me on his lap. I blushed and tried to get off his lap but he wrapped his arm around my waist keeping me still. “Carlos I really think I forgot my lunch.” “You can eat some of mine.” “What is it?” “Ham and cheese sandwich with carrots and a root beer.” “I’ll starve.” “And why would you do that?” “I’m Vegetarian.” “You’ve got to be kidding me.” “Nope, now can I go call my brother?” “Use your cell phone.” “I don’t have one.” I saw the way he and his friends looked at me. It’s the same face everyone has when I tell them I don’t have a phone, shocked and sympathetic. “Look I don’t need your sympathy.” “Just use my phone then.” I took his phone and dialed my brother’s number. He picked up after the second ring. E: Hello? G: Hey Erik. E: Oh hey Gen what’s up? G: I forgot my lunch in your car can you bring it to me? E: Um, sure. G: Thanks. After hanging up, I quickly handed Carlos his phone. I kept my eyes on my hands till I heard the lunch room doors open. “Thank goodness, your boss actually let you take this lunch?” “Yeah, I told him my little sister got into a fight and I had to go check on her.” “Oh Gosh please tell me you didn’t tell him that.” “No I told him if he doesn’t give me this break I’ll sue him for slave labor.” “Oh thank goodness, now my lunch please.” “Here.” I grabbed my lunch bag and opened it to see a grilled cheese with carrots, peanut butter, and a water bottle. I smiled and went to hug my brother but I realized that Carlos still had a hand around my waist. “Let go Carlos.” “Why?” “So I can hug my brother.” “He doesn’t need a hug.” “Yes he does he brought me lunch.” I glared at him and tried to get off his lap. Finally he let me go and I hugged my brother. He hugged me gently and slipped a twenty into my pocket just like every day at lunch. That usually means that he’s going to be home late and I have to get dinner for myself. “I’m going to get tofu tonight.” “That’s fine but I don’t want Carlos there.” “He wouldn’t be there even if you said he could be.” Carlos pulled my arm and sat me back on his lap. “What did he say to you?” “Nothing important.” “What.did.he.tell.you?” “Nothing just that he wants me to make dinner.” “Alright.” I nodded and ate my sandwich quickly. When I finished Carlos tried to carry me to our next class. “Put me down.” “Why?” “Because I don’t need to be carried.” “Soon enough you’ll be begging me to carry you.” “In your dreams.” “Nah you’re holding our children in my dreams.” “You didn’t even know I existed before today.” “No I just never had a reason to talk to you before.” “You’re lying.” He shook his head and put me down. I fixed my shirt and walked out of the cafeteria I know everyone saw that. Soon enough rumors with start about us and I’m not ready for that. I want nothing to do with him or his friends. |
