April showers bring more than May flowers popping up with greens in sunlit hours.
Flash floods wash out roads. Lawn chairs float and churn
down the river with umbrellas upturned.
Sump pumps in cellars fail as water seeps
in from the deluge of the storm that sweeps
across the land. Worms appear on sidewalks,
frogs croak by the pond as the mallard squawks.
Water rivulets erode the driveway;
potholes on the road make for puddle play:
children clad in raingear splish-splash and jump;
pedestrians get sprayed as cars go bump.
Soggy soccer fields, drenched farmland and yards
cancel games and plows as sinking's in the cards.
The once hard clay soil turns to wet cement;
off comes a boot, stuck much to sock's lament.
There's joy and sorrow, mishap and mayhem
We all rise to muddle through all of them.
Such is the magic of spring time powers. April showers bring more than May flowers.
