As I drove through town today,
traffic slowed to a crawl, then stopped.
Easing my way into rustic downtown,
I saw the tell-tale orange cones of construction.
Drivers raced up, then slammed on their brakes,
angrily waving their arms and yelling out.
Workers clad in hard hats and neon vests
chuckled and shook their heads at our dismay.
As I sit in this traffic stand-still,
a thought suddenly crosses my mind.
How many of these construction workers
never make it home at the end of the day?
So the next time you come upon construction,
please take special care and slow down.
Remember that without these workers,
we wouldn’t have new roads to travel upon.
