This is a prologue to a novella I am working on. The working title is "Outside eyes". |
When you read this, I’m sure you shall experience a fair amount of disgust at a fair amount of decisions, both mine and other’s. I ask only that when you judge them with your, absolutely just condemnation, that you remember your own. Judge with a mirror before your face and a look at all your actions spiralling out of control behind you. You may find that your moral arrogance has blinded you from your own mistakes, for we all have them. I hope that the consequences of yours are minor or not at all, but every mistake no matter how small can have consequences leading to what happened in this story. I won’t justify what I have done, and I accept blame for my many mistakes. But I ask you to look at yourselves with honest and brutal eyes; to study your character with the cruellest of lenses and to condemn only those mistakes, which you would never fall to yourself. Because I believe that everyone believes they are the good guys, the hero. But this story isn’t about a hero. It’s about that moment you realise you are the antagonist, the villain and the monster who has ruined everything. Because everyone’s mistakes, made in the chaos of a moment have consequences that can never be controlled, nor predicted. Think of the world as an interconnected web, and a misstep or failure of idiotic mistake, placed in the right (or wrong) can send a vibration along those webs that trap a fly, you never meant to hurt. Things seem worse now, than ever before with social media and Instagram. But any mistake is a mistake. Mine just had the consequences. What you read now, might explain a small extract from a greater unknown tragedy. But read it and then pronounce whatever judgement you have on me and hopefully also on yourself. |
