What we were doing, and thinking, two weeks after 9-11.

Two weeks after 9-11 we looked up to the sky;
we thought about the tragedy and felt the need to sigh.
The people that were sacrificed because of minds so lost,
were in our minds as tears still flowed—we shuddered at the cost.

We went about our daily lives as we were want to do,
but something in our consciousness insisted that we stew.
We stewed about religion’s grip and how such evils flow;
fanatics as mass-murderers—grave markers, row by row.

The promise of an afterlife with virgins as their prize,
provided waves of nausea and made our anger rise.
The virtue of humanity was lost inside each plane,
because of ideology which we think is insane.

This life to some is meaningless—a place to wipe one’s feet;
dismiss the earthly life you have, the next one is more sweet.
Behold the call from ancient book, behold for dogma sake;
and crash planes into buildings without caring who you take.

So we were watching all the news and stories on TV;
and both of us were greatly touched by real humanity.
Like firefighters who were lost—heroic, yes they were;
the pouring out of love and care induced our hearts to stir.

Yet for the most part we both vowed to fight the cause for love,
to advocate reality and curb faith’s feeble shove.
With minds so lost there is the stench of bigotry and hate,
as seen by such religious fervor on that fateful date.
