Learning how to survive

Learning

I learned early on to crawl from my dark place
To find a way to listen without really listening
To find a way to close off my mind
To steel my eyes against the stinging
So his xiphoid words wouldn't penetrate my soul

So I would never believe what he said about me
How he tried to make believe I was less
Than I knew I was

Still his words batter against my bullet proof skin
And leave bruises that aren't detectable to the human eye.

Some day I will fly
Leave master gravity and soar to the ozone
No more bruises, seen or unseen
No more burying my human responses
No more

Some day
