A Heavy Heart ( Dear John )

With a heavy heart I write to you
at risk of being thought a fool,
in sadness as I bring to bear
the end of relevance we share,

Although there is no comfort here
my purpose is to sound sincere,
and ease your mind inside this pain
where meaning's given once again,

For reasons I can't fully grasp
perpetuity that few will have,
and tenderness because so pure
was bound to fade and not endure,

Not for pleasure of myself
or because of some one else,
I can't continue on this way
without these words I need to say,

You'll go on and time will pass
the memories shall dim at last,
as forgotten feelings soon depart...
