My market definition and synopsis for Tangled Roots - 2017 NaNo
Tangled Roots will be a mystery. I would not really consider it a thriller, but by the definition of “exciting things happen,” I suppose it could be.
The target market, of course, will be mystery lovers. I think, because the protagonist is female, it will appeal more to women than men, although there are men who like to read about female protagonists, and there is a fair amount of male influence in the novel. Mystery readers is my target audience.
Synopsis: Laura Weber moved to Nolden temporarily last summer. She came to town to help her aunt after the death of her uncle. Her aunt owns The Land Before Time, an antiques shop in town. Last summer she found a car in Lake Content, later discovering there was a body in it – handcuffed to the steering wheel. That murder investigation took a tole on her, but brought her closer to Deputy Chad Kiefhauer, who works for Murphy County Sheriff’s department. She has decided to stay in town and has recently bought a house. As she is putting in gardens and doing some landscaping, her dog digs up another one of the town’s secrets – a body, buried at the back of her property line. Her property backs up to state land. She figures the person who buried the body there thought it was on state land and would never be found. This find brings up not only a murder that was covered up but also a deadly car accident that was never fully investigated. Sandy Prescott, whose body was found in Laura’s yard, was set up for the car accident. Laura finds out MJ Jorgensen was actually driving the car that killed Elaine Thomas. In the investigation, she stands to lose her best friend, her boyfriend, gain and lose a new friend, and her whole world could be turned upside down. She, too, is in danger.
