The Social Divide It was 2050 when the elves decided to take the Earth. The war was brief. They had bided their time and had taken advantage of it when the great powerhouses of the world were weak and vulnerable. Resources were depleted within months. Btu the elves didn't oppress the humans. Instead, humans were looked upon as equals. While this was mostly because of fear as the elves were dreamweavers, it was a promising partnership. The war itself was not as violent as it could've been. Earth was war torn enough by the time the elves had made their presence known, and only after the humans realized that they faced impossible odds was when the fighting ceased. They had also realized that the elves were a much more advanced species, and the transformation of Earth had begun. London was declared the elven capital. The construction of the metropolis had begun shortly afterward. The last fifty years had been the Royal Family stripped of power, London rise as one of the most powerful cities in the world, and the two races coinciding peacefully. But it was the crossing of these races that was considered to be lesser. Emelyana Daric was one of the lucky ones. Her strong human and elven connections on both sides of her family were in high places and well-respected. She was one of them – what were known as phims. A cross between and elf and a human was considered to be the lesser of society, and were often cast away. However, London had given them a safe haven of sorts in the slums. Emelyana had been able to score an apartment on the London skyline, looking out over the ever-changing landscape. London didn't seem to have any flora left – it was all cityscape. Lights were never out, and the city never seemed to stop. She knew that her own people were in the lowest levels of the city, barely seeing light and barely surviving on their own. It was a life she had been spared, and she could've easily sat back and lived her life comfortably, but she didn't. She was going to fight for the rights of the phims. She was preparing to go in front of the City House – the city's form of government. The speech that she had prepared had been one that she had been working on for weeks. While nerves ate away at her, she knew that this was necessary. No phim had ever gone in front of City House before, and she wanted to at least get the conversation started. No one had the voice that she had. The dangers of the slums had grown exponentially after phims had been allowed to take solace in them, and it was starting to become a problem. She just wanted to make sure that phims were not all to blame. Humans and elves were down there too, and they were dangerous. She had been in the slums and had seen the violence firsthand. However, she was dragged out of it before she was able to get any additional information. "Ms. Daric, the Houseman will see you now," a deep voice boomed, the source invisible to her. She stood, gathering herself, running through the speech in her head. She knew what she needed to do. All she could do was hope that they listened. |
