This is the start of the story of Percy Jackson Jr. Read closely in dream. Find clue...
DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ THE ORIGINAL PERCY JACKSON SERIES AND THE (HEROES OF OLYMPUS) SERIES WRITTEN BY RICK RIORDAN HIMSELF. YOU WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON. AT ALL.

Prologue

Dear, well anyone gets to read this I guess,

So, let's just get this straight. I don't need any of you Seaweed Brains out there getting confused. My name is Percy Jackson, I'm 12 years old, and my life sucks. Unless you are someone important like my best friend or a teacher, if you call me by my real name (Perseus), you may not live for very long. Sorry to tell you this but, I'm going through some major family problems like you would not believe so I'm pretty uptight. I also have personal problems that you may not understand. I can't read English (only Ancient Greek), I can breathe underwater, and every time I see a spider, it tries to kill me ( if that's not weird enough for you, go ahead and keep reading, I'll show you what weird looks like). I live with my grandparents in a little apartment in New York. I have been homeschooled since I somehow ruined a school’s plumbing when someone tried to stick my face in the toilet in third grade. I didn't even get wet either. The rest of the school’s situation however, wasn't so pleasant. Everyone got soaked. But me. It was pretty funny too till the cops showed up. Grandma had to bail me out of detention. Later that night, she vowed that Grandpa would homeschool me until I got invited to camp. What camp? No idea. I just knew that it was where my parents had gone for their education. It was also where they met. I've never met my parents before. Their not dead though. They just couldn't take care of me. That's how Grandma always put it. Wonder why they lost custody of me. Probably because my dad is a criminal. Apparently when he was about my age, he wasn't thinking straight so he burnt a hole in the Gateway Arch and attempted suicide by jumping out the arch and into the river. He never got caught. How he lived? I have a few suspicions (where did I get breathing underwater from for instance). Apparently, my parents were gonna come someday with reclaimed custody and take me to some peaceful place to live happily ever after with them based off of a note that was clipped to me when I showed up on my grandparents’ doorstep. Could it happen, yes. Was it likely, no. So, that's my life for ya.

Well, at least it used to be.

Sincerely, probably the most unlucky kid who has ever
lived in this world.

A Big Hairy Spider Assassin Ruins My Day

Percy knew he wouldn't get it.
What the heck was an upper quartile? All he saw were lines and boxes and numbers he didn't understand. Percy was at his friend Carter’s house. They were working together on some homework his grandpa gave him. Percy and Carter became friends really fast because he had taken some bilingual classes and knows Greek too. It made Percy feel normal. Carter was also Percy’s mentor. Grandpa would write down the lessons, and Percy would spend the school year at Carter’s house. That's because Grandpa’s teaching didn't turn out so good.

“Can you translate these numbers for me,” Percy asked. “You know how it is for me and English.”

“No problem bro,” said Carter. “Just let me get a snack first. I'm starving!” He went off to the kitchen. Percy looked around Carter’s room. It had lots of Greek and Roman gods and goddesses in little figurines and posters and books and all sorts of other stuff. The room overall was messy but Percy didn't mind. His room at home couldn't have been much better. In fact, it looked just like his room. It made him feel at home in a way.

“I'm back! I brought you a peanut butter and jelly,” Carter walked in and put the plates on the desk. “But for me, a delicious cheese sandwich with BBQ chips inside. Yum.”

Percy looked at Carter’s sandwich. “You are so weird. I hope you didn't accidently put your napkin in it again.”

Carter hut his hands up defensively. “Hey, it wasn't that bad. Of course, you didn't tell me about it until after I ate the sandwich so it's not my fault!”

“Sure,” Percy rolled his eyes. “You totally didn't notice the whole time that your sandwich tasted like paper. It's like saying that I'm related to Zeus.” Carter kept his head down while he ate his sandwich. Now normally, Percy would have thought that Carter was hiding something, but he did that whenever he says stuff like that. Greek mythology was Carter's favorite language he didn't like it when Percy made fun of it.

When Carter finished his sandwich, he quietly started translating the words on the worksheet into Ancient Greek. Percy started to feel bad about what he said. The comment must have hit real close to home. “Hey man, I'm sorry about what I said there. No disrespects toward Zeus. Ok?”

“No, you're right you know,” Carter said as he finished translating the paper. “I can't exactly lie to you about that. It would make you want to kill me when you find out.”

“What do you mean, when I find out? Carter, are you hiding something from me? Cause last time you did that, your plumbing didn't work for a week.”

“I've said too much to you about this…”

“You know what, since school ends tomorrow, I'm gonna pretend that I didn't hear any of that so I can go home and read my mother’s books in peace. Now, how do you do this?”

Percy never learned what an upper quartile was. Cause about five seconds after he said that, he saw a spider. It wasn't a normal daddy long leg either. It was a huge hairy thing that didn't look too friendly. It started crawling across the desk onto Percy’s shoulder. “Carter! Help me out here!”

Percy was filled with automatic fear. He was already trembling when the spider started to wrap its webbing around Percy's neck. He was surprised how hard it was. Whenever Percy or Carter tried to get some of it off, it got tighter. He knew Carter was trying his best to help, but it just wasn't working. Then when everything started to get dizzy, Percy felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. The spider had bit him. Percy collapsed out of his chair, every muscle in his body throbbing with pain. That's the last thing he remembered.

I Get A Horrible Recovery

Percy woke up feeling like crap.
He had never thought that his life would end because of a spider. He was probably in the Underworld and this was his eternal punishment. Feeling like crap forever. Percy knew he probably deserved it. But Carter was a real pain sometimes. He would get all mysterious and start mumbling about how Percy was in danger when they could be just sitting on the couch watching TV.

“Percy! Wake up! Percccccyyyyy!”

Percy looked up. Carter was hunched over him in a protective stance like he expected another spider come crawling in and finish the job. He had something his hand. It looked like one one of those ambrosia squares that Percy read about in his mother’s books. It was supposedly the food of the gods.

“Here, eat this,” Carter held Percy's head up off the pillow and fed him some. It tasted just like the blue chocolate chip cookies Grandma made whenever he was sick. Percy started to feel better.

He looked around at his surroundings. He was in the bottom bunk of Carter’s bed. He had a large bandage on his shoulder which looked really swollen. He remembered the spider and he tensed. Was it dead? Did it go away? Was it under the bed waiting for him to get up to finish him off? Percy felt paralyzed from thinking about it.

“Where is it,” he asked.

Carter saw the fear in Percy's eyes. “Don't worry Percy. It's dead. Well either that, or it's gonna be living the rest of his life with a pencil in its back.”

“How long was I out?”

“About 18 hours. Today is the last day of school, Percy. Your grandma is expecting you in a half an hour. Which means it's time for you to go to camp. But there's only one problem.”

Percy felt his muscles relax. But what was Carter talking about? Everyone kept talking about this camp that he was supposed to go to. It was getting annoying really. Why couldn't he know about this stuff? This made Percy angry. “And what would that be? Other than the fact that I'm can barely walk.”

“Your aunt ain’t here yet.”

———————————————————————————

It's Time To Go But I Feel Dead

Why did Percy's life have to be complicated?
Great. Just splendid, indeed. Percy has an aunt that he never knew about. What will happen next? Tapdancing Bigfoots? “What aunt?”

“Don't worry about it. But when she comes, don't be too hard on her. She doesn't know that she’s your aunt. In fact, she doesn't know that you exist.”

Percy wanted to stay angered with Carter but he had too many questions. “Well, I exist all right. So, is she on my Mom’s side or Dad’s side.”

“She is on your Mom’s side. Though she hasn't met her. Your aunt needs to be taken to camp as well. She should be here in a couple of hours. She thinks that she's coming for a family reunion, which isn't exactly a lie. If we are lucky, we will leave in the morning.”

“Ok, so should I go home and pack?” Percy got up from the bed. The pain in his shoulder was so bad, Carter had to catch him and feed him more ambrosia.

“Yes, once you get home, tell your grandma that it's time for camp and that we are leaving this week. Now, let's get you home.” Carter helped Percy to the bus stop around the corner. They sat down.

“So, what should I pack,” Percy asked. “Can I take my Mom’s books with me?”

“Yes. In fact, that's all you should need except for maybe your underwear. Until we get to camp, it's important that we travel light. I've got all the nectar and ambrosia we need for the trip.”

Nectar and ambrosia? It talks about that stuff in his Mom’s books. Percy was astonished. “You mean the food and drink of the Greek gods? That stuff’s real? Cool.”

“Yeah that's the stuff. Come on, our bus is here.” Carter helped Percy onto the bus and he was thankful. He didn't need to be taken to any sort of hospital tonight. Percy could just see the headline on the news. Local Kid Collapses On Bus From Spider Bite. Will He Be The Next Spider-Man? Percy hated the news. Always twisting the truth to make a thrilling story. That's what happened to his grandma. She took a vacation once, and everyone claimed she was dead.

Percy sat down and Carter stood holding the bar on the ceiling that he could barely reach. Percy asked why he didn't sit down once and it was because the seats made his back hurt. Percy understood. The seats on the bus weren't the most comfortable.

“Percy, there is a spider on the window behind you,” Carter informed. Percy shut his eyes so the spider wouldn't attack. For some odd reason, the spiders never attacked until he saw them. It was as if looking at them was the only way they would know that they should kill him. That sent a chill down his spine. Percy was terrified of spiders. Why did they have to pick on him and not everyone els?

Percy felt the bus stop. “Carter, is it our stop?”

“No, and don't open your eyes. The spider is on your lap.”
Percy was scared before and now, he was paralyzed. He was not moving a muscle until that thing was out his eyesight. A few minutes later, he got the ok to open his eyes because they were getting off.

When they got to Percy's apartment, the door was already open. Carter hobbled Percy into the apartment. Percy could hear his grandma talking on the phone, “... I know your not supposed to have phones at camp. Just be safe ok, dear? The special should be coming to camp this year… Bye Grover.”

Percy heard that word again. Camp. What is with this camp? Why is it so important that he goes to camp? He wanted to yell, WHATS GOING ON!!! But he just settled for a, “Hey Grandma, who were you talking to?”

“Oh, just a friend from camp. Oh my gods! What happened to you? Another spider?”

Percy figured he looked bad but Grandma made it sound like he looked half dead. “Yeah. Look, I need to go pack…”

Grandma and Carter locked eyes. “Is it time?” she asked. He replied with the most serious face Percy had ever seen on the kid, “It's time.”

Sweet Dreams Are Apparently Not For Me

Percy had never seen his grandma run so fast.
She took off and left Carter to hobble Percy to his room. He didn't know where she went but he didn't worry. She would be back.

Percy found a lightweight backpack that was the color of sea foam. But, he liked to just call it blue. Percy packed most of his underwear, a few outfits, his swimming trunks, and his favorite Bermuda shorts.

He turned to face Carter. He was standing in the doorway looking at his watch. Carter realized that he was looking at him and said, “Percy, I wish I could stick around but, I've got your aunt waiting for me. Wish me luck.”

“No such thing.”

“So true.” Carter turned and left. Percy grabbed his Mom’s books. He layed in bed and flipped to the inside of the front cover. He read his Mom's intricate handwriting. It was in Ancient Greek saying,

My dear, I hope these books help you. It is very important to me that you read these books I have written. They have everything you need to know in their pages. I love you very much and I'm sorry if I'm not there for you. Your father and I are very proud. Please know this.

Percy read through most the books that night. He just got to the part where his favorite hero, Perseus Jackson (that's probably why he was his favorite) made a volacano erupt and got shot in the air washing up onto Calypo’s island Ogygia when he fell asleep.

Being that Percy seemed to be the unlukiest person in the world, he had dreams that were just as crappy as the real world. Tonight, Percy dreamt that he was standing in a very large cave. Out in front of him, there was a horse and an owl locked in a cage. They looked very weak and fragile as if they were being starved. Percy wanted to help them but all he could do was stand there and watch. Then ground began to rumble and smaller cages shot out of the earth all around him. One had a phoenix, another had a dove, there was one that had a misty form of a person covered in jewels. There was one that had a wild boar in it. The boar kept flickering into different animals but always still a boar in the end. All of them looked so helpless. But Percy couldn't keep his eyes off of the seventh cage. It was empty. But he knew that once it was full, something bad would happen. What ever or whoever was supposed to go there, needed some warning. Percy got a strong feeling in his gut that he had to find whatever was supposed to be there. He would need it to unlock its friends.

All of a sudden, the scene changed. Percy was on some sort of boat that was helplessly lost. There was really scrawny man with dark curly hair. He looked about 25 and was wearing a mechanic’s uniform. It said Leo on the name tag. He was hopelessly running around the ship trying to figure out what was wrong with the boat. Percy knew. The sails were loose and there was a leak below deck on the starboard side. How he knew that, he had no idea. Percy tried to move. It actually worked. He grabbed Leo’s shoulder and told him that there was an island about 100 miles north where he could fix the ship. Percy had a gut feeling the guy had experience. He seemed to understand and got to work. Percy thought about the sails. He wondered if he could like, tell them to tighten themselves like with Blackbeard’s magic ship in his Mom’s books. He willed them to do so, and it worked. Cool.

The scene changed back to the cave but the cages and animals were gone. The big cage in front of him was replaced with a big throne. It was too big to be for a human and was covered in dirt. It was probably a beautiful artifact at one time but the thing seemed to be down here for a while. Leaning up against it, was a folded up fishing chair around the same size. It was one of the expensive chairs that had fishing pole holders too. One of those ones that people pay thousands of dollars to buy and this one one was in jumbo big size. Whoever owned that thing was a lucky dude.

All of a sudden, the cages popped back out of the ground but the horse was now sitting in the fishing chair and the owl was on the dusty throne. They looked very uncomfortable like they couldn't get off the chairs. Percy could tell that there was something special about these two animals. All the animals were equally important but those two did something that made them have to stand out. He wasn't sure what it could have been though.

———————————————————————————

Family Reunion… Yay.

Percy woke up shaking.
The dream must have shaken him up pretty well to have done that. It wasn't cold outside or anything. Actually, he felt cooked and the house smelled like burnt bacon. Grandpa must be cooking again. Or at least trying to. Cooking was never Grandpa’s strong suit. Percy wasn't too good at it either. Last time Grandma tried to teach him how make something more advanced than a waffle, he got so nervous that the sink exploded. That was not a good day for anybody.

Percy got dressed for the trip. He chose an orange t shirt and a pair of jeans. He didn’t know why. He just had a feeling orange was gonna be important in the future. He couldn’t stop thinking about the guy he saw in his dream. It seemed so real as if it wasn’t a dream but a memory. No, that couldn’t be it. That makes no sense. Percy heated up a waffle for breakfast to keep him occupied until Carter came. He didn’t want Grandma to get suspicious. The last time he told her about his dreams, she freaked and called someone named Grover. She talks to him a lot. Must be a family friend or something.

After Percy ate, he went to his room to finish getting ready to go to camp. He put his school stuff in a small bag with a few learning to read books that Carter gave him to practice reading english. Percy was ok at it but the letters just seemed to jumble on the page into different words that didn’t make any sense. He also packed his ADHD medicine so they don’t kick him out for punching someone in the face for annoying him or something. That happened a few years ago at a county fair. But Percy couldn’t help it, you know? It was just a natural reaction he couldn’t quite control at the time. That’s why he’s got the meds. He also slipped the note his parents gave him in the front pocket of his backpack.

When he was finished, he put on his favorite sneakers and sat down on his bed. Percy was still thinking about his dream when Carter came. He was puffing as if he had run a 5k or something. Behind him was a girl that was about his age with blond hair gray eyes. Percy had to admit, she was pretty. Maybe he could could ask her out sometime in the future. “Carter, who’s this?”

“Your aunt.”

So much for going out with her. “What,” Percy got off the bed and stared at the girl. “I thought that she would be much older than that. I mean, she’s my aunt.”

Carter whispered to his ear and said, “Well, you’ll need to get used to it because you’ve got plenty more at camp. Now just go along with what I say.” Percy nodded in understanding of the request but he was
still a little confused about the whole family thing.

“Who’s this Carter,” the girl said. “I thought we’re going to our family reunion.” She looked at Percy completely confused.

“Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Perseus Jackson and I’m your nephew,” he hoped she understood because he totally didn’t, “but I would prefer it if you called me Percy.”

She seemed confused but she went along with it, “My name is Raven Sharp. I’m apparently your aunt.”

“Yeah, I have never actually met any of you guys in my family, just my grandparents so, could you tell me who they are before we get there,” Percy, Raven, and Carter grabbed their stuff to go, “so I don’t look like a complete idiot?”
