Forever in my heart

I watched him standing there
As the wind whipped around him.
He stared out ahead of him
To the vast, endless space below.

He was peaceful and happy.
The beautiful and natural landmark
Stretched around us
As we visited the badlands.

He stood at the edge with confidence.
I was afraid of his closeness
To the vast depths below
But he was content.

We returned to the car
For the rest of our trip
As we continued our travels
From georgia to Montana.

Many years later
He's been gone a while
But that day at the badlands
Will remain forever in my heart.
