It's six-forty in the damned morning and I want to know where you've been!" "At Lisa's. I gave you her phone number." "I know. I started calling her and driving around looking for your dead body at one AM. I've called every half hour until I got back ten minutes ago. You were supposed to be home by midnight." "I know and I was on the way when he hit me..." "WHAT! Hit you? What happened?" "I turned to watch Lisa kiss Brad. It was their first and I didn't want to miss it." "You did what?" "Don't get all pissed off and yell at me, it was an accident. But, it wasn't my fault. The other guy ran a stop sign and hit me." "Explain it to me one more time." And this time slow down so my old sleep deprived brain can absorb it." "Look, dad, it wasn't my fault. I was driving Brad home then going back to Lisa's to drop her off when he ran the light and hit me." "What time was that?" "Eleven-ten. He lives in Skyhawk Park." "Why are you just getting here?" "The police kept us for hours, they took our phones and wouldn't let us call." "Did you tell them you're only seventeen?" "Yes, dad, I did. They wouldn't listen." "Your drivers license has it." "I'd left my purse at Lisa's." "God, I wish your mother were here." "I'm sorry, dad. I miss her too. I'll do better, I promise." "Don't cry, sweetie, It's okay, you're perfect in my eyes, I swear. As long as we have each other we'll make it. I love you Cecilia. Come here and give me a hug." "Thanks, dad. Uhh, they towed the car." "Oh, crap! I’m sorry baby, I’m not mad at you. Don’t cry sweetheart, we’ll get it back." |
