Adam sprung from his bed, still groggy from the half-sleep which had already consumed him when he felt the hand grip his ankle.
His heart leapt from his chest. Icy adrenaline-lightening consumed his belly and travelled up his throat, trapping the scream trying to escape his lungs. He gasped for air as a wave of nausea overtook him. It was so strong he thought he might be sick.
The lingering sensation of that grip was still with him as his eyes adjusted to the dark, shadowy enclave of his room.
"Must've been a dream," he offered to the empty room with a sigh of relief. "I swear I'm never sleeping with one leg out ever again, I don't care how hot it is."
He chuckled as he nestled back into his bed. It took him a few seconds to register the warmth of the body occupying the space next to him.
