The Overcore (A dungeon core adventure)

I stood there in the garage seething on the inside as i held my empty gaze towards my pet project, I was home early due to the lab having a plumbing issue thus sending most of the scientists home early. What counted as a frustrating ride back led to me coming home to my wife's moans coming from our bedroom, followed by a man's moans who i didn't know. After the shouting match that followed led me to stomp into the garage feeling hurt and empty. A sigh escaped my lips as i looked around my makeshift work corner, gardening supplies and seeds sitting on an old wooden bookcase for my gardening habit that would benefit my kitchen in the future, followed by my workbench messily covered in tools, metal, and computer parts for my project. This of course being the large portal frame that i was building. Of course id prefer it to be in the lab however after explaining my theories and formulas i was laughed off to work on it back home. The frame consisted of a large metal ring, the outside of the ring showing the innards of mechanical and computer parts for tinkering as it was held upright at the base via a wire grate ramp on both sides. I was secretly wishing for it to work but it simply didn't matter at the moment. The image of my beautiful blonde wife riding a man kept rolling in my head. Did she love me? i wished so however i'm sure she married me for my money which i'm sure helped any woman's opinion of me

The man ran out the moment i yelled for an explanation leaving behind a view of his hair white ass, something i certainly did not leave followed by my, sorry the cheating bitch throwing anything within reach at me. So i stomped off into here, the one place i enjoyed spending my time at. A shudder went through me as i turned to my laptop as i began typing out some of the programming for activation so i could work out the kinks for it, So far i could only get the frame to spin and make pretty lights which did nothing for me or the current wonderful world of 2230. Despite all of mankind's achievements such as curing disease, space travel and famine. The population density only grew faster, my cramped 3 story home had a miserable amount of yard space that was filled with my puny garden of vegetables and weeds and a endless smog filled sky. Thus leading for new land to be explored and while we had floating cities in the ocean and bio domes on the moon and mars, those were slow going thus led to my dream project of becoming world famous for an immediate solution of new land. The door to the garage opened behind me with a slow aching creak of the hinges as my wife entered. I of course didn't turn around feeling the rage surge in me as i paused in my endless typing to take a shuddering breathe only to finish the final line needed for this hundredth test.
"Would you like to explain now?"i asked my wife Karen as i turned around to see her in a robe, her hands behind her back as the robe showed some cleavage of her breast's. While she wasn't super model worthy, with her long blonde hair, crystal blue eyes that were currently filled with anger.
"Of course ill explain dearest husband" she spat at me as she waved a manicured hand in my face taking steps until she was a few feet away
"with all of your pet projects and science bullshit, you've been leaving me home alone without any attention and i am damn sure it will not change anytime soon!" she yelled as anger and hate oozed out of her voice as my ears rang from her shouts.
"Of course it wont change!" my shout matching hers
"Every time i reach out you act as if i'm not good enough until you need me for your bedroom fun!" I screamed feeling my face turn red, i took a breath to continue only to pause as she reached into the pocket of her robe to throw something at my chest which slapped against it only to fall to the as i failed to react. My gaze drifted down as my anger suddenly choked as i stared at the metal back of a pregnancy test. With technology being so improved the general design of these things stayed the same besides vastly improving in quality. With a slow shuddering hand i reached down to pick it up, i rolled it in my fingers as the ring in my ears consumed me as i saw the infamous + sign of a positive test.
"I-I'm going to be a dad?" i ask completely numb as i leaned back on the bench, my head hanging over the tester.
"No, No you wont "i heard her say as her feet showed up in my vision, confusion filled my eyes only to widen as wrath filled hers, the hand behind her back flashed out and agony filled my chest as i grabbed at the pain feeling cold steel fill my hand. I glanced down in shock only to see the handle of a butcher knife stuck out of my left breast, Crimson staining my blue button down shirt as i felt weak in the knees.
"You will never soil our children, as if you would have time for them you bastard!" She yelled as her hand clamped down on mine yanking the knife out of my chest and a agony filled screech came out my throat as she slashed at my cheek and she hopped back with a manic sneer on her face.
"I'm going to enjoy watching you die, you asshole" her words quiet and cold as pain filled me, from my pierced chest as my world grew dim and her betrayal, while i wondered about her love, it was hard not to grow feelings for someone even if they grew cold. My world swam as tears made my eyes go blurry. I felt like a failure as i turned ti my workbench hoping for a solution that wouldn't appear only to see my laptop, a rueful snort escaped me as pain filled gasps escaped my lips, my mouth filled with the taste of copper. A cough making me spew blood across the screen as i pressed the enter bar to see if this iteration of code would make my dreams come through. I froze as i felt a shudder go though the air, Something that went through me as i stared at the portal frame a yawning black space tore open in the middle only for it to close and open like some kind of trap door
"Holy shit..." I muttered as i stumped towards it, one hand clutched to my chest and the other hand reaching out toward the blinking tear
"Josh...you actually did it...." Karen muttered as she pulled the knife to her bosom before she screamed and charged me slamming the knife into my back sending me falling over into the void of the portal as it swallowed me whole.
Karen screamed as she watched her neglectful husband disappear from view only for a snap wake her from her wrathful haze as she looked around, the portal wavering in and out of sight as it slowly grew bright, and fear filled her. She looked around madly before greed filled her. Running over to the blood splattered work space, she grabbed a small quantum drive flash drive and stuck it into the laptop and downloading most of the files available. Once finished she quickly ran out of the house as a hum grew from the machine, a hum that vibrated her to the core as she turned around, donning only a robe and a blood splattered knife in her grip, she watched her house disappear leaving only a crater and severed pipes to spew their contents in the pit.

I screamed as i fell through the black only to keep on falling as i reached out to grab at everything, sparse colors zooming through my fingers. I looked around in shock at the random clouds of colors, reds that flared, blue swaying, and yellows bolting through. Fear gaze way to awe. Am i dieing? is this heaven? or hell. I waved through my hand through every cloud i saw and a laugh escaped my lips, looking behind me i watched as every cloud i touched slowly tugged in my direction like it was guided by an invisible string to follow my wake. I spun back around only to gasp as a white dot appeared in the distance that grew to fill all in sight as if i was falling towards it and a growing ache filled my heart, a shiver escaping me as i spun around in panic feeling eyes on me in this empty space only to still. as the White grew behind me, the black void filled with cloud filled with eyes. I screamed as the ache in my chest grew worse and worse knowing that death was near. The last thing i heard were hideous screams greeting my own as all faded out.

A sneeze escaped me as grass ticked my nose and i sat up in a panic looking around, and massive stalks of grass filled my view as i stared in awe as the green spears reached a height of 3 feet. Looking down i watched as before my eyes as grass grew in between my fingers pushing my hand up under a mat of grass. As i stood i look around as i spied mountains in the horizon, and a forest to my right, A chuckle slipping its way out of my lips and as i looked up i spied 3 moons and joy blossomed in my chest as i scream for all my worth
" I DID IT!"
Laughter bubbling out of me as i choked it down feeling my cheek sting, my hand reaching up to my right cheek, i wince as i pull my hand away to see my finger tips dotted my finger tips. I gasped as i patted my chest and a dull ache came from my left breast and i pulled shirt off to show a wide slit in my chest. Confusion at the fact i wasn't dead i patted the area around it, finding it slightly warm and i huffed as a few drops oozed out of the wound and made its way down my chest, i grabbed my shirt and chewed at the bottom of one side as i tore it into strips to bandage my chest and a few probing finger found a slash on the right side of my back. I blindly bandaged it to as i slowly made my way through the sea of grass towards the forest hoping to find something to ease the hunger that i knew would come.
