The Little Box


Sitting on a bench by the river
On a beautiful cloudless day
Trying to put my heart on paper
Wishing for a reason to stay

Yet I knew that it was over
I already saw what was gone
Still I sat there alone that day
Convinced my heart to hang on

Inside that little box
Down by the river
With a soft kiss
And a soft prayer

I placed my heart there

As I looked out onto the water
My heart was so sad and sore
If only I would have tried harder
Had the courage to say more

But I was told a long time ago
It would go so wrong if I tried
And I could lose things forever
I looked at the letter and cried
