More Than a Feeling
The ivy cover brick buildings were located on the perimeter of the campus green. It was early September so the leaves hadn’t changed color yet, but Jason could imagine the brilliant red, golden, and orange colors that would soon blaze against the blue skies of New England.

The first day of college can be daunting for anyone but it was particularly hard for Jason because he was far away from him home state of Colorado. Saying goodbye to his parents was emotional.

“Make sure you call us every Sunday”, his mom stated through her sniffles.

“I will, Mom”, Jason replied as he felt a lump form in his throat.

On his first night, most of the kids on his hall went out for a night of drinking but Jason was never a big drinker.

“You’re sure you don’t want to go out with us?” his roommate inquired.

Jason responded, “No, I’m fine, I think I’ll stay in and re-string my guitar. “

His favorite song was, More Than a Feeling, by Boston. As he was strumming his guitar he felt the familiar coarseness of the guitar strings against his finger tips. For some reason this provided him with a sense of comfort. As he started playing, he noticed a girl was standing outside his open door listening to him play. He motioned her in as he continued with the song.

She sat down on the bed across from him and began to smile. When he finished playing the song she complimented him on his musical ability and introduced herself. He continued to play more music and then they began talking. They hit it off right away. By the end of the evening he had more than a feeling that they would be friends for a long time.
