When the pain of loss is just too much for the soul |
"The Soldier's Wife" "The beauty was astounding. A meadow that could melt the heart of any hardened warrior. Vibrant colors of yellow and red bloomed all throughout giving the sense of a magical place. As the wind gently swept across the grass it was her he wanted to bring here. His beloved. The stains that covered his armor were a mix of dirt and blood. "This is where she'd want to be" he said to himself. He made his way back down the hill to a nearby horse and carriage. He then proceeded to heft a large sack over his broad shoulders while grabbing a shovel. He turned and began to make his way back up the hill. During his ascent, he began to cry. Once he found the perfect spot he gently laid the sack down and began to dig. With tears trailing down his muddy face he dug with a purposeful intent. Once the hole was deep enough to stand in he picked up the sack and stepped inside the hole lying it down gently. He placed his hand on what appeared to be the top of the sack "Rest now my love and leave everything to me" he said gently. His wife, also a soldier in service of her nation fell in battle protecting him. A group of ambush archers took up position near a creek crossing where they were. She heard the danger but wasn't able to alert him before the arrows were fired. She dove in front knocking him down but taking quite a few arrows in the process. In that moment, as the soldier reminisced over his beloved a raging murderous intent took hold. The quiet valley was suddenly filled with the roar of a beast. Unnatural to anyone who heard it and a clear message to all. A demon now lurks in this valley, and no one is safe". 2 |
