Word count 279 for flash ficition contest
Rain poured down, as lightning lit up the dark sky. The streets were flooding with water, as the lights flickered on and off. If the storm kept up this way the houses would soon be floating down shore to, who knows where. Out of know where a shrill ring lit up the night as a phone began ringing. How anyone had any service in this weather I had no idea, but I could hear the faint conversation from down the hall, “You’re the only one I can trust”, and then a loud clap of thunder shook the inn, as all power ceased to work.
Screams were heard up and down the hall, as I lay in the bed hoping this storm would pass. Unlike all the others I had been visiting this island on and off and knew how the storms worked. Sometimes they would come and demolish everything, or on nights like now, they would shut down all electricity making it impossible for us visitors to actually enjoy our vacation. Just last night I had been sitting with a group of young newly weds as they told scary stories in the dark. All, but one held no interest to me because I knew they were not real.
The only one that held my interest was the one story that surrounded my birth, and the prophecy in which I had to fulfill. So many times, I had searched for that link and now that I had the information it was up to me to decide what path I was going to take. This storm was just the calm before the war, as I waited for the rain to stop.
