The Music Teacher

Lift up the lid on those ivory keys,
for classes combining piano and strings,
contrasting subjects from advanced to beginners,
all fees for tuition paid on the half-hour.

From the clean-cut classical to tattooed pop star,
the teacher confides with all musical ears,
nurturing the girl with the loud pushy mother,
as she bangs down the lid and bursts into tears.

Proud is the moment when the accomplishing pupil,
makes a solo performance before moving on,
his place being taken by a three-fingered guitarist,
all fees for tuition paid on the half-hour.
