Sue wanders down to Hobby Lobby
to buy a skein of yarn;
she hurries back before the storm
and starts to make a scarf.
There isn’t much to do this day
as winter brings a draft;
but she is happy to crochet
with black yarn in her lap.
In the many miles of worry
that stretches in her mind,
Sue takes yarn and, in unwinding,
begins to make it right.
Among persistent malady,
within the jaws of fret,
a fiber art come to the rescue,
and mitigates upset.
Then in the AM hours,
when sleep has gone outside,
the hook of yarn that is crochet
placates when woes collide.
Unwelcome mental visitors
that barge in through the night,
are set aside to mind their manners
before the sun brings light.
It is a simple pleasure, yet one
employed with ardent zeal;
crochet a scarf, perhaps a hat…
for Sue, a fiber art appeal.
