Father Pride
By Lisa Noe
I recall walking the corridor, holding your hand
you were five foot six but, to me, you were a giant.
You stood tall and had a long stride
and I was always by your side.
We were at the Veterans Hospital in Johnson City
And you were very ill, you never spoke a word of it
you had an ailment that kills.
You were exposed to fumes in war, they made you very sick.
I was very proud of you, you fought in Vietnam
Yet you received a medal for humanitarian efforts
you were such a great man you helped anyone in need
Your fellow G I's loved you with respect as a Sergeant.
You were fun and free-spirited, yet rigid and strong
you meant so much to so many
You gave it all for your family, friends, and country
and you would do it again, even knowing the result.
Good Bye, my father, I love you
You are special always to me.
I have so very much pride in you
I just wish you were alive to see.
