Days of future past (193 words = 390-197) |
It's going to be a long drag-my-ass day. I can feel it already. An extra pot of coffee may be needed. Dawn is a feeling? No. Dawn is my cousin. I called her Sunday morning in tears. I should've heeded her and stayed home to watch old movies. But no. I'm no longer a child like I told her at a family picnic long time ago. A thousand dandelions were blooming and no one was threatening to kill them. Her children played oblivious to the storms looming beyond the horizon. I thought they have no future. Dawn read my thoughts. "They have no fear. I refuse to ruin their day. May this troubled time pass; may peace reign for a thousand years. Don't you smell the grass. Don't you smell the flowers? You used to." Yes, I used to. Freshly mown grass sprinkled with dew as I delivered papers house to house. I had memorized the route until it became background music to the harmony inside me. I would open my mind to the morning's melody and sing as if no one would hear. I didn't care. I didn't have a care.
