Empathy

I don't like seeing people hurt
Even people who have hurt me
Maybe I just care too much?

Empathy is pain
When you hurt, I hurt
Even if I don't know you

I want to hold people
Tell them it'll all be okay
But I want to be held and told it'll be okay

It's an endless cycle
I want to help
But I want to be helped

I want to just be numb
Even if I know that won't help any
Numbness can hide the pain

But I can't get numb
Being numb is addicting
addiction ends in death and brings misery

Pretending nothing is wrong cannot help
Even still, I long to pretend
Out of fear of great pain

But pain is necessary to heal
Healing will bring relief
Relief brings happiness
