Is it really human?
1.

"I think it's just genetics, you know?" The girl peering at the boy's teeth shakes her head.

"I don't think so..." she says nervously. The boy closes his mouth and gets up from the chair, looking quite displeased. He knew it was a bad idea to show her, but he needed a second opinion. He really didn't know what was wrong with his mouth. One day they were normal and the next his gums were aching. He noticed two short pearly fangs overlapping his front teeth, a little blood staining his other teeth. These fangs were vampire-like and he didn't remember getting bit by anything. And who is to say this a vampire thing?

They aren't real!

Now he was shaking slightly, not knowing what to do and pacing around his room. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you m-mad, I never seen anything like that." The girl walks over to the boy, trying to make things right. She didn't like to make people upset and quite frankly she didn't how to react if she did upset the boy. He dismissed her by putting his arm out, needing some time to think about things. He started sweating like crazy now, feeling a strong ache on his teeth again.

He wasn't sure what to do as the girl is useless to him. However, he did appreciate her attention, he just suddenly felt a wave of embarrassment of his peculiar fangs that sprung out.

The boy paced around the room, gently messaging his jaw and avoiding the girl's stare. The girl just watched him while messing with her golden locks. A thing she did when she started to worry. Either a twist of her hair or a twiddle of her thumbs.
Her eyebrows scrunched in defeat, as she knew not to speak to him again. The boy grumbled to himself and his mind started to race in a million different directions. His hands were clammy and cold when he clenched them closed. He looked down at his hands and his vision started get blurry all around.

What is happening to me? The boy thought. He thought and thought and thought.

He thought maybe he could run for miles away from the girl, but he also thought he could just sit down on the hardwood floor for a few seconds. So, that's what he did, with his back against the wall and his head between his knees. The girl still stood there in shock from her own sentiments. The quietness isn't what she liked from the boy. The boy enjoyed it though.

Gave him some time to think of everything.

The girl and boy decided to head to a dentist office. The boy didn't think it was the best idea, but there was nothing else he could think to do. On the way, he was starting to get a little hopeful that it could just be some rare disease, yet normal for him in this case. The girl beside him watched the boy carefully, afraid he might lash onto her again. She decides that she won't speak to him unless he strikes up conversation first. Today was all strange for her, like she sensed this to happen. Her nerves were always fully activated, but they were bothering her more in the morning. She didn't tell the boy this as he really didn't give her the time to with his tooth problems.

When they arrived at the small office on Birmingham Street, it was completely empty inside with just the secretary behind the dry wall. She didn't look up at the young couple until the boy knocked on the glass window. The secretary dully gazes at him and slowly opens the glass door.

"Do you have an appointment?" she grunts.

The boy with his hand planted on his cheek shakes his head, "No, I have an emergency, my teeth are hur-"

"Sign your name and you'll be called shortly." The secretary slams the door shut and goes back to her computer. The girl flinches at her abrupt demeanor and the boy sighs while signing the sheet.

After he's done he heads to sit down on the worn out leather seats. The girl follows to do the same until she realizes the brightly lit fish tank by the entrance. Large and small fishes swim mindlessly around each other, but get startled by the girl's presence. The girl smiles to herself, the first smile she's had all day. Many of the small fishes she didn't recognize, but she loved their pink tinted scales. The larger ones were were just two catfishes that chased each other like a game of tag. The girl had found that the fishes gave her a sense of tranquility. She started to think how unfair it is that she couldn't be one of them right now.

Meanwhile, farther behind the dry wall where the secretary sat and past several other empty rooms, was an old dental surgeon preparing his room for the next client. He steps outside the room and off to retrieve the boy, unaware of the unnatural situation ahead. His mind was in other places like the argument he had last night with his wife about staying at the bar late. His wife worried he'd affect his health with drinking too much, but he didn't care as he was already an old man who was on the line of death. He wasn't afraid of dying like his wife was. She encouraged him to take these healthy juices in the mornings and taking vitamins that were all plant based crap. There was no use into neglecting them, so he still took them to keep his wife at ease. Today, he felt tired and a little distracted, but he would rather be here than at home.

The dental surgeon slowly opens the door to the waiting room and notices the girl by the fish tank first. He calls for the boy that has his head against the wall and eyes closed while holding his right cheek.

"Hello, welcome, please follow me this way!" The dental surgeon greets cheerfully, hiding the fact that he is in a blue mood. They both walk behind him, following the dental surgeon in the dim hallway. The girl smiled slightly at the surgeon's chirpiness, for some reason finding the nice old man adorable. When they reached the room, the girl sat on a chair, similar to the one's in the waiting room. The boy sits on the dental bed, taking a few breaths as the pain starts to rise in his top gums again.

The surgeon does a few things on the computer, but quickly turns to the boy in agony, "What seems to be the problem today, son?" He grabs the tools in the cabinet next to him and fixes the top light onto the boys face. The surgeon notices the dry blood stained on his white t-shirt, as well as a small amount of it on his cheeks. He furrows his eyebrows and looks at the boy's worried grey eyes.

The boy hesitates to speak at first, not wanting to show the fangs.

"Does it hurt to speak?"

The boy nods his head. "Alright let's take a look then."
