The Best of Intentions

The Best of Intentions






Early morning dream-state,
not yet awake and yet
not still asleep.

Where I write
and rewrite puzzles in my head --
no -- I mean poems.

I could keep them, not
lose them from my head if
I'd just get out of bed

and write them down.
Capture them before
the poems run away.

This morning, I forced myself
to rise and scribble down the words
bouncing off my dream

so I shouldn't lose them
to waking moments and the scent
of coffee. I can barely read what I wrote.
