A Good Idea

“So, first we get all the stuff we need from the garage,” George said.

“What stuff?” Randy asked, “What are we going to do?”

“We’re going to retaliate of course!”

“What does ‘retailight’ mean?”

“Retaliate, it means we’re going to get back at Susan and Trisha for the trick they did.”

“You mean telling Dad we put dog poop in their room?”

“Yes!”

“Wasn’t that our trick?”

“But they shouldn’t have told Dad!”

“Oh...”

“So, first we get all the stuff from the garage.”

“What stuff will we be getting?”

“Paint mostly.”

“For what?”

“For their room, of course! Oh, shhhh! Here comes Mom. Pretend we aren’t talking about this.”

Later when George and Randy were grounded and scrubbing paint off the walls of Susan and Trish’s room. And Susan and Trisha were also grounded and scrubbing the dog droppings off the floor of George and Randy’s room, Mom and Dad were sitting in the living room, talking.

“You know when we took that parenting course and that woman, Samara Clark, told us the best way to parent was to let them do what they wanted and it would all sort itself out,” Dad asked, as he downed another shot of gin, “and we decided to raise our children that way?”

“Yes?” said Mom, chugging her third glass of wine.

“I’m definitely beginning to think this wasn’t a good idea.”
