Instead of always coming to God in need, may check-in with Him about His needs for you!
I tried not to share this morning, but it seems that I am going to share anyway.

When I got out of my bed, the question in my mind was, "Do we ever ask God what we can do for Him?" I know we are always asking and telling Him what He can do for us, but do we ever wonder what we could do for HIM?

Since He is obviously in control of everything, He must not need much, and old puny, helpless me certainly couldn't do anything worthwhile for an Almighty God!

That has bugged me for two or more hours. So here is what I came up with. I (Malinda Miles) often ask the question, AND I have the audacity to answer it. LOL,

I can be more obedient to His will.
I can give Him the honor and praise that He justly deserves.
I can remember to pray more often.
I can do a better job of learning about what He would have me do.

By the time I finished, I had a very long list. Then, I took that human look at how it might feel if we asked that question, "God, what can I do for you?"

Here's what came out of that thought. Just as a mother, I often think of how nice it is when one of my children asks me what they can do for me. Or they come by and paint a room. Of the call and ask if I want or need something from the store.

I can only imagine how God would feel if once and a while we would come to Him asking what we could do for Him rather than just always asking what He could, should, ought to do for us.

Today, I have already thanked God for waking me up, for making sure that all of my body parts and functions were working, and for being in my right mind. I certainly thanked Him for my children, their lives, health, and strength, and without a doubt, I prayed for friends and neighbors. I even got in a word or two for my enemies -- now that one was hard and probably should have been first, but I got it done.

As humans, we are very focused on ourselves. We are taught early on that self-survival is the first law of nature. We also learn very quickly that if we do not take care of ourselves, nobody else will. So we got that lesson, but today, I would like us to maybe rethink that lesson just a little by asking or inquiring of God what He would have us do right here on this earth -- not when we all "get to heaven."

Just like each day takes care of its self, heaven will too, and probably none of us will make it into heaven if we do not begin today by not only asking God what He would have us do for Him but then start putting into action those things that we already know.

In a seminar on racism with a room full of White participants, the question was asked, "How many of you would like to be treated the way Black people are treated? Not a soul raised their hand. The instructor replied, "Then you already know what to do to overcome racism, bigotry, and all those other things that are so prevalent in America when it comes to Black people. You do not need race training. You just need to treat the next Black person you meet exactly the way your want to be treated."

I just bet if we applied that principle -- Do unto others as YOU would have them do unto you, we could overcome racism in America overnight. AND, if we answered the original question, "God, what can I do for you today?" We would probably get similar results!

Just something to think about as you go about your day.

Peace and blessing always to you and yours
