The air is brisk and refreshing as it bites at the inside of my nostrils. I inhale deeply as I look up at the stars. The moon is full and bright, beaming down at me and on the glittering field. The crunch of the frozen grass beneath my boots rings in my ears like an old familiar song. It reminds me that there are chores to be done once the sun comes up. Plants and animals will need to be prepared and protected, pantries will need to be stocked, and so on. For now, though, all I want to do is watch the diamonds shimmering all around me, and let my mind wander in the twinkling silence. Just me and the coming winter.
