Personal Reflection |
" he inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" The LORD answered him, "Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah." But David's men said to him, "Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!" Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, "Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand." (1 Samuel 23:2-4 NIV) Reflection: I'm sure some of my life decisions would have been very different if I had "inquired of the Lord" before making them. Sometimes I didn't ask for the Lord's instructions for fear that I wouldn't like the answer or thought I might not have the courage to obey his command. Sometimes I just didn't know enough to ask. And more often than not, I wasn't always sure what the answer was.Early on in my Christian walk, I was willing to ask God to direct my path, but thought it only applied to how I was living my life as His follower. I didn't understand yet that any direction He gave me was for His glory, not mine. Only by studying His word, was I able to understand that I had to learn how to "hear" Him through the Holy Spirit. It began with a love for His Word and continues today with trust and willingness to be used for His Kingdom. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (James 1:5-8 NIV) Prayer: Teach me to seek Your ways, Lord Use me today for Your glory, Your purpose, Your Kingdom. Thank you for loving me enough to trust me with Your commands even if I can't always see the whole picture. In Your holy name, I pray. |
