Day 1 Prompt of escapril2022 - a challenge to write a poem a day during the month of April
When I opened my eyes
                             You were gone.
I waited for the pain
                   But none came.
There was a hollowness
                             An empty void
                                                 An open space...
And when I let myself dwell there
                             Without judgement or condemnation
The hollowness eased
And in its place...
Came possibility.
                   A flickering hope
                                       A creative spark.

I breathed in -

I breathed out -

And the spark took hold.

I threw off the covers
And planted my feet on the ground
My hands reached for my notebook and pen
On the blank page I poured out my soul
Let my imagination take me
                             Swirl around me
                                                 Heal me.
When I felt the full release
I paused...
The last line pulsed at me
You are better off

And when I moved over my thoughts
I knew those words spoke TRUTH
I was better off
You leaving was a blessing, not a curse.
I was free of your confinement
I was free of your rules and expectations
Things I could never measure up to...
I was free to re-discover
                             My Self.

I wish you well, but I also thank you
For opening my eyes to what I really want...
                                                 My creative spirit to soar.
