Steams of sun's light
streak across the wildflower meadow
turning magentas and cornflower blues
brilliant. Almost neon, they shiver
before cool winds flatten them
as a downrush heralds
deep grey cloud huffing in.
Low rumble reverberates
in the distance.
Storm's coming.
Hail snows. bouncing
and popping like
corn, as the blue flowers
bend before the assault.
Marbles bounce off tree branches,
thrumming and drumming
storm music. Magenta petals
stream, floating in runoff
to puddle near the split rail fence.
Storm's here.
Quiet resonates across the blighted meadow
and yet ... there! Sky-blue heads pop
up on resilient stems to survey.
Drops ping from maple leaves as streams
of light illuminate flowered recovery
under a multihued arch overhead.
A meadowlark orchestrates
a resurrected afternoon.
Storm's over.
