Let's Not Move On
Let's Move On

Kicking shitty cans down roads,
for someone else to clean;
further down, the burden loads,
but Let's Move On, change scene

Past massing barbs and muted slurs,
such tales, fractures grow;
a motif tired... weak, recurrs,
Let's Move On, the story goes

to butchers markets, jackets chintz,
bright, high vis all the rage;
caught blue handled in a fridge,
Let's Move On, disengage

with parliament shut down for shits,
'midst giggles at the laws;
an expert rouge immune to writs,
Let's Move On, please withdraw

to meetings with five cobras dodged,
Shakespearian, the breach;
responses fumbled, chances bodged,
Let's Move On past, they preach

Reaching, stretching, truths in lies,
protective circle's bled;
Let the bodies pile high,
Let's Move On past instead

to circles of protection, vague,
around the aged, ill defined;
retiring to houses, plagued,
Let's Move On, they chime

with rainbows in the front porch,
and clapping at the doors;
scalpels drawn at backs, debauched,
Let's Move On, he implores

with contracts given out to mates,
who just don't have the skills;
low grade work for higher rates,
but Let's Move On, pay bills

Bills of rights to silence calls,
of protest in their wake;
human rights held dark in thralls
Let's Move On, for Pete's sake

Let's make vows we cannot keep,
write deals that won't work;
hope the other side won't reap,
Let's Move On, shrug and shirk

Shirking blame and breaking laws,
in specific, selfish ways;
limited to fit their cause,
Let's Move On now, he says

to ABBA parties, broken swings,
and vomit on the walls;
with cheese and wine and office things,
Let's Move On, he calls

It turns out they can organise,
a piss up after all;
no breweries required... just lies,
Let's Move On... final call

A party with a story bleak,
corrupt from out the gate;
pride held strong with morals weak,
Let's move on now, it's late

All these things, and more aside,
and still he sings that song;
a bard, self serving, fork tongued, lied,
for Christ's sake... Please Move On!
