The Pirate By Quizmo LaGrande A pirate came deep in the night Disguised on silver steed, With flashing smile and breathless charm He wooed me to my knees. "Avast, Sir Knight," I cried in vain, "Please leave and go away, "Find another damsel fair! "I cannot give my love today." "You see, fine Prince," I tried to speak, "To another I am bound. "I fear the throb I hear for you "To deafened ears must sound." He gazed at me with saddened eyes, As love be torn apart. So he left, a noble deed, But departed with my heart. A pirate came late in the night, He stole a treasure dear, And with my heart he took the key To unlock this lonely tear. ~~ *** ~~ Pass days to weeks, slid weeks to months, The tears shed slowly by, When suddenly there came a light, A beacon in the sky. As if by gift, the pirate came, His beating heart in hand, Offered love and promises The key on slender strand. Together in grand treasure chest Our hearts were locked as one, Our souls entwined, bodies merged, The secret known to none. But bindings of another kind Encaged this bird of grace; The bars of fate wrought so unfair Marred lines upon my face. And through the squall of forging free, Though hurricane and storm, I fought the surge of ancient seas, My sails tattered and worn. When at last I did find course, The isle of golden sun, My ship's full route to treasure's path, My heart now free for one. A pirate came deep in the night, Once charmed my love to stay, Hoisted mast, kept the key, And simply... Sailed away. ~~ * * * ~~ |
