Negotiations “Do you think we’ll really move?” Jason asked Grampa. Jason’s parents had been looking for a bigger house, off and on, for a while. The issue, they had plenty of room before Grampa moved in. They solved the bedroom part by giving up the playroom. Jason didn’t mind at all, he really liked having his things in his room where he could play with them (even when he was supposed to be sleeping.) Apparently having his parents catch him not sleeping was part of the issue... They started looking for a bigger house. “This is what I think,” started Gramps, “They don’t want to move, they want you to sleep at night. I think if you promised them that you wouldn’t get up and play after a certain time, like maybe eight o’clock, they’d probably stop looking at houses. They really love it here.” “Me too!” Jason said, "and all my friends are near here, I don’t want to move." “Well, I think, if you tell them that and negotiate a time when lights out means lights out, and your bedtime, I think they would stop looking.” “What’s a negotiate?” “It’s a big word that just means you try something together.” “OK. I can negotiate!” “Remember. This is off the record.” “What’s a record?” “Oh, it’s the old way they made music.” “Like a drum or a guitar?” “No like a record, ah... this is getting out of hand... What do you call the way you listen to music now?” “Gramps you have a lot to learn don’t you!” “More than you know.” “I’ll help you,” Jason said, so seriously it made Gramps’s heart practically skip a beat. “You are helping me already, Buddy,” Grampa said, finally, “Let’s go find some food!!!” And another Dynamic Duo was born. |
